Alcoa Consumer Products wins Stevie™ Award in First-Ever American Business Awardssm
Richmond, VA - May 2, 2003 - Alcoa Consumer Products, A Business of Alcoa won a Stevie Award in the first-ever American Business Awards. Alcoa Consumer Products' Reynolds Wrap® Release® Non-Stick Aluminum Foil won the Best Product Development Team award.
Hailed as "the business world's own Oscars", The American Business Awards are the first national, all-encompassing business awards program honoring great performances in the workplace.
Reynolds Wrap Release Non-Stick Aluminum Foil was successfully launched in 2002 as a result of an integrated team effort between Technology, Operations, Product Development, and Sales and Marketing personnel. The original idea for Non-Stick Foil came from consumer research that indicated consumers had important unmet needs to eliminate food sticking when cooking and to reduce the cleanup of messy pots and pans. Business results to date have been outstanding and consumer response has been extraordinarily positive. Recently, Release Foil was cited as a Top Ten innovative product from among 31,000 new consumer products launched in 2002.
Ruth Mack, President of Alcoa Consumer Products, said, "This award underscores our commitment to new product development as a critical component for continuing profitable growth for Alcoa Consumer Products. We're pleased Reynolds Wrap Release Non-Stick Aluminum Foil was recognized with this award for it acknowledges our continuing commitment to bringing meaningful innovation to meal preparation."
Nicknamed the Stevies for the Greek word "crowned," the awards were presented at a nationally broadcast show at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers in New York City. The ceremony was hosted by Charles Osgood, host of CBS News Sunday Morning and commentator for the CBS Radio Network, and was broadcast nationwide on radio, and worldwide via the Internet, by Business TalkRadio. "With the Stevie Awards, business people now have the opportunity to win the same sort of positive attention that up till now only entertainment celebrities could get," said Michael Gallagher, founder and president of The Stevie Awards, the organization that runs The American Business Awards. "Tonight we took a giant leap forward in recognizing companies and the people who work for them for their positive efforts, accomplishments, and contributions to their communities."
